Deliverance Of God

THE DELIVERANCE OF GOD (Luke 4:16-21) ---Jesus came to deliver people from captivity (of sin) ---God has always delivered His people….

I. GOD DELIVERED…

A. Israel (Exodus 3:1-10)

1. They did not understand at first (Acts 7:22-25)

a. God’s people are still sometimes slow to believe

B. Peter from prison (Acts 12:1-11) NOTE: The above examples were miraculous deliverances. God delivers today providentially, and through His word, but not by miracles.

II. GOD DELIVERS THE FAITHFUL TODAY…

A. From Temptation (2 Peter 2:9) “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished.” (1 Corinthians 10:13) “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

1. Need to PRAY for this [model prayer] (Matthew 6:13) ”And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever, amen.”

2. In the Garden of Gethsemane…

a. When they first got there… (Luke 22:39-40)

b. When Jesus came back… (Matthewe 26:36-41)

B. From Evil (Galatians 1:3-4) “Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father.” (2 Timothy 4:16-18) “At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever amen.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-10)

1. We will still be persecuted by evil, won’t be destroyed (or lost) because of evil (Colossians 1:9-14)

C. From the Wrath to come (1 Thessalonians 1:8-10) “For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God: And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” (1 Thessalonians 5:9-11)

IV. CONCLUSION:

A. God Delivers HIS people…

1. From TEMPTATION

2. From EVIL

3. From CONDEMNATION

B. To take hold of these blessings, we MUST…

1. Be IN Christ

a. Where ALL spiritual blessing are found (Ephesians 1:3)

2. Be WALKING in the Light (of God’s word/truth) (1 John 1:6-7 & Psalms 119:105)
